CBG (Compressed Bio Gas) Production

CBG (Compressed Bio Gas) Production

Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) is a purified and compressed form of biogas, primarily consisting of methane (CH₄), produced from organic waste like agricultural residues, cow dung, press mud, municipal solid waste, and food waste. CBG serves as a clean, renewable, and sustainable fuel that can directly replace Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in transportation and industrial applications. It aligns with India’s clean energy goals and is supported through various government schemes like SATAT, MNRE Waste to Energy, and GOBARdhan.

Key Attributes of CBG (Compressed Bio Gas) Production

    • CH₄ > 96%, CO₂ < 4%, H₂S < 5 ppm

    • Meets IS 16087 quality standards

    • Supports Napier Grass, Press Mud, Cow Dung, Poultry Litter, MSW, STP Sludge, and more

    • High solid tolerance (up to 30%) using High-Load Reactor (HLR) tech

    • Eliminates need for additional grinding

    • Minimal water requirement

    • Long life GFS tanks (30+ years)

    • Two-stage scrubbing using Biochemical + Amine/Membrane technology

    • Double membrane biogas balloons (1000–10,000 m³)

    • Cascade storage systems for easy transportation (up to 3 tons per cascade)

    • Project design, liasoning, approvals, subsidies, and carbon credit facilitation all under one roof

CBG (Compressed Bio Gas) Production Process

    • Sources: Cow dung, press mud, Napier grass, MSW, sewage, etc.

    • Chopping or pretreatment if needed

    • Organic matter is broken down in the HLR

    • High solids handled up to 30% without dilution

    • Bacteria convert biomass into raw biogas (CH₄ + CO₂ + impurities)

    • Stage 1: H₂S removal using biochemical scrubbers

    • Stage 2: CO₂ removal using membrane or amine scrubbing

    • Purified gas compressed and stored in balloons/cascades

    • Ready for pipeline injection or cylinder transport

    • Digestate separated and processed into solid PROM or liquid LFOM

Benefits of CBG (Compressed Bio Gas) Production

    • Reduces greenhouse gas emissions and pollution

    • Converts waste into clean energy

    • Helps manage municipal and agricultural waste efficiently

    • Reduces dependency on imported natural gas

    • Creates rural income through feedstock purchase

    • Generates carbon credits and bio-fertilizer revenue

    • Boosts rural employment and entrepreneurship

    • Improves sanitation and waste management

    • Supports sustainable farming with organic fertilizers

Conclusion

CBG production is not just a clean energy initiative — it's a transformative solution for India’s waste management, energy independence, rural employment, and sustainable agriculture. With rising demand for green fuels and strong government backing, CBG has emerged as a profitable and environmentally vital industry.
